Baptism is one of the two ordinances that Jesus instituted to be practiced by the church. The singular common way in which baptism was practiced in the New Testament was by immersion. The person being baptized was immersed, put completely under the water and then brought back up again.
Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and is a personal public declaration that someone has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. The ordinance of baptism only needs to be observed one time after a person accepts Christ, which is a sign of the beginning of their Christian Life.
Baptism does not save anyone, but it does declare to the world that someone has already been saved. While baptism is not a requirement for salvation, it is a biblical command and demonstrates love and obedience to Christ.

A membership requirement at FBCNZ is that every member must have been baptized by full immersion as Jesus demonstrated. We also wait until our children are old enough to believe and understand the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them.
